Taking place in Nairobi yesterday the Local Content 2nd Stakeholder Engagement Workshop hosted by ESAL Africa and Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives.
As one of the only local content providers in Kenya, Bentworth understands that oil and gas extraction is new territory for providers and government alike. We have shared a number of posts recently on the challenges faced by regulation, or lack thereof of the Kenyan oil and gas sector.
It was therefore with great interest, that we were pleased to accept the invitation from ESAL Africa to attend this local consultation.
The theme of the workshop was “Local Content for Economic Transformation” and the stated objective was for key policy makers to obtain views on the draft Local Content Policy and draft Local Content Oil and Gas Regulations.
Key items at the event:
- opening remarks by Amb. Joseph Kiplagat
- welcoming remarks were given by PS Betty Maina
- Dr. Jim Thomas presented details for delegates on global best practices for joint ventures and regulations
- a presentation from ESAL Kenya’s CEO Dorris Kinya who presented the revised local content regulations
Local content stakeholders were given the opportunity to give their comments on the items presented. Bentworth were represented by Project Lead Lynette Nyagah.
