This article published in August 2017 was discovered in our archives. It provides an overview of the challenges faced by Bentworth Investments Ltd, international players and the oil and gas sector in Kenya in general. These include:
- Limited available skilled local workforce
- Availability of and access to technology, training and resources
- Transfer of knowledge and development plans
- Equipment maintenance
“The start of Kenya’s oil and gas industry dates back to only 2012 with the drilling of the Ngamia-1 exploration well by a major operator. Therefore, gaps exist between adequate manpower, technical capacity, and local content in oil and gas exploration and production activities, as well as Kenya’s local content laws for the industry contained in the 2014 Energy (Local Content) Regulations. Looking to close this gap, Baker Hughes, a GE company (BHGE) has successfully formed and implemented a local partnership model with Nairobi-based Bentworth Investments Limited.”
